I got to spend an afternoon photographing all the fun stuff and people at Hip Stitch - I know I'm a broken record, but seriously - I love that place! Here's just a small sampling of some of the fabulous stuff at their store, and they brought their adorable kids in to model some of their homemade creations. Can you stand how cute they are?!?
In a combined effort, we're giving away a Hip Stitch class. Here's your chance to take the Hip Stitch Basics class, or learn to make one of their many great projects. If you're an out-of-towner and can't make it to Albuquerque for a class, you'll get a copy of their book of the month, Sewing Green. So here's how you enter: leave a comment about sewing - ha, how's that for specific? Either post a photo of something you've made, or if you're like me and didn't even sew on a button, post a comment of what you'd like to make, or what class you'd love to take, or tell me about the sewing machine that has been gathering dust in your closet. It's pretty open. We'll randomly draw a winner (remember my highly-scientific method involving post-it notes and a basket?) and announce the winner September 15. And swing by Hip Stitch to check out their lovely fabrics, have a cup of coffee and just say hi!!

I have my Grandmother's sewing machine (it is as old as I am and I am not young ...lol). I wish I lived in your area -- this sounds like the PREFECT place for me!!
I'm not in the running for the class, as I'm - ahem - associated with Hip Stitch, but I had to tell you I love the pictures you posted, and can't wait to see more!! Thanks again for the wonderful photo session, and we'll see you soon!
I find all these cute do-dads on etsy and I'd love to start sewing again and make them myself. I'd love to make the giraffe rattles, minky blankets and basic tote bags that are so hip. I've always sort of "winged" it with sewing very basic items. I'd love to take a class and start from scratch to undo all the bad habits I'm sure I've learned. I had no idea Hip Stitch even offered classes!!! Thanks Ellen ;)
Oooh! Pick me!! I love to sew (quilt, mostly, but I've been getting into other projects too...)
My "sewing comment" is that I'm in LOVE with Amy Butler fabrics and am in the process of making a king-sized quilt for our bed along with matching pillows. :)
Wish I were still close to ABQ!
the only thing i can sew is a hem on some curtains...and those are crooked!!! i then resort to using the clip hooks to hang them so it's not noticeable that they are crooked. all that to say, i need some major help sewing!!! please pick me :)
Hip Stitch rocks :D
Oh I would love to win this prize. I received a sewing machine for my birthday in may and still haven't taken it out of the box because it totally intimidates me. Regardless, I am so looking into classes!! :)
Does sewing on a button even count as "sewing" these days. Unfortunately, that is all I am able to do at the moment. One year I attempted to make Christmas stockings for the family, but quickly became overwhelmed just by threading the sewing maching.(The machine I had recieved the Christmas b4 and had never used.) My mom ended up finishing the project I began. I see so many cute home-made sewing creations, and it makes me really anxious to learn. I would like to join in the fun :o)----vanessa martinez, ness2quick@yahoo.com
Oooh...I would love to learn how to sew! I also find it intimidating I have a machine that is definitely gathering dust that I purchased several years ago before I was married and had my little one. I would love to learn to make fun things for myself and my little girl.
I keep thinking I should stop reading so many crafty blogs and just start making some stuff. Maybe a class would be a good place to start... :) Love your new blog look, Ellen.

being the mother of two young princesses, i am now realizing that gowns, tutus, and mary poppins' outfits are not accessories, they are a way of life. a requirement. one gown and/or tutu is not enough and the fact that i cannot whip out a costume at a moment's notice has me failing in this category of motherhood. i have a sewing machine that hasn't the light of day and i can't tell you the difference between a bobbin and a bobby pin. in order for my girls to *not* have to go to therapy at such early ages, i *need* to take sewing classes so i can hear them sing my praises...while waiting for them to point out my next failure.
